Awesome Autumn Longstowe Hall Wedding

I’m amazed that as a Cambridge Wedding Photographer I’ve not previously shot a Longstowe Hall Wedding but it was definitely worth the long wait. What a stunning venue it is and the Autumn light and colours made for beautiful conditions for  October wedding in Cambridgeshire.

For Rachel and Marc, like so many of m wedding couples, it had been a long wait for their big day and everyone was determined to make up for last time.

Longstowe Hall Wedding

Set in the Cambridgeshire countryside a few miles south of Cambridge Longstowe Hall is a grand privately owned property that is simply perfect for an elegant, timeless wedding.

We kicked of the bridal preparations in the separate cottage building which is not only perfectly placed within the grounds, but offers the peace, tranquility and privacy that makes for a super chilled out place to spend the morning getting ready for the celebrations ahead.

The ceremony was conducted in the stunning grounds under a pergola with incredible views back to the house in one direction and of the peaceful lake in the other. You really would be hard pushed to find a more beautiful natural setting for an outdoor wedding ceremony in Cambridgeshire.

The wedding reception was divided access two adjacent sections of the building, the first area for serving drinks, canope and general mingling whilst the other area is covered in a marquess housing the wedding breakfast and evening dancing on a hard black and white chequered dance floor.

Bride and Groom Portraits

One of the reasons I have been itching to shoot a Longstowe Hall wedding is to capture some beautiful couple portraits with the stunning grounds. As a wedding photographer one is completely spoiled for choice for backdrops and places to explore.

The classic Longstowe Hall wedding shot is the wide view across the lake of the newlyweds with the house behind, it would have been rude not to capture it. There are however, so many other areas of the grounds at Longstowe Hall that are incredibly picturesque. The Autumn colours just added to the beauty. We only need to spend 15 minutes walking the grounds of Longstowe Hall to get some beautiful bride and groom portraits with a variety of backdrops and scene.

The Reception

Another feature of the venue that I really liked was the marquee area used for the wedding breakfast and evening reception. The full height clear “windows” allow for a sense of being outside in the beautiful green surroundings while actually being in a covered area. Another bonus (an this is a really important one) is that the bar area is right next to the dance floor.

I have shot many weddings over the years at venues where the bar is in a separate area to the dance floor and in my expereince as a wedding photographer who stays long into the evening – guest drift away from the dance floor toward the bar if they have to choose one to the other. No such issue for A wedding at Longstowe Hall and as a result the dancefloor was rammed all night – what a party!
