Boho Chic Wedding In Cambridgeshire.
After meeting Sam and Piers for a drink to discuss their plans for a Humanist wedding in Cambridge, it was clear that the super friendly couple’s alternative wedding day would be a super relaxed, and incredibly joyous celebration.
The most important thing to both Sam and Piers was that the day reflected them as a couple, their values and beliefs. They were ultra determined that all of their wedding guests would have an amazing and truly memorable day.
The plan was to keep everything really informal and they were definitely not afraid to shy away from wedding traditions that they didn’t feel suited them or reflected them as a couple.
With this in mind they’d already decided to have a humanist woodland ceremony on a farm near Cambridge. The really cool and quirky rustic venue called Burleigh Hill Farm, is more commonly used as a campsite than wedding venue but this rural Cambridgeshire spot was the perfect fit for a Cambridge Boho Wedding.
Humanist Wedding in Cambridge.
To kick things off, I began the day photographing the bridal party preparations at Sam’s beautiful farmhouse home on the outskirts of Cambridge. It was a wonderfully chaotic atmosphere as fizz was sipped, gifts exchanged and speeches nervously rehearsed. It might have been informal but it was clear it was going to be as heartfelt and emotional as any wedding I have covered. After a couple of hours with the bridal party we headed over to St Ives to begin the wedding celebrations.
The early June sunshine ensured everything would be perfect for the planned Cambridge boho wedding, a humanist ceremony was planned to take in the woodland area on the farm and fortunately the wedding was perfect for everything to go as planned.
The wooded clearing was decked in colourful bunting and the guests sat excitedly on hay bales waiting for Sam’s arrival. It was such a chilled wedding – guests who had dogs had been encouraged to bring them along – everyone was welcome and the whole thing was incredibly inclusive.
For the reception the working barn was decked out with personal touches from top to bottom creating a really welcoming DIY feel that was full of personality.
Later on guests were treated to a BBQ and live music which had everyone on their feet and shook the barn to it’s foundations.
After an amazing day’s celebrations most of the party headed off to the custom made bell tent campsite for a giant campfire. A fitting end a perfect midsummer’s day.

Cambridge Boho Wedding Venue
Burleigh Hill farm sits in the tranquil Cambridgeshire countryside, just ten miles north of Cambridge on the outskirts of St Ives, on a small family run arable farm. Mostly used as a campsite it features a shady old orchard – which was perfect for this humanist wedding celebration. It also has as open grassy fields where guests can pitch up for that festival wedding vibe.
From a photographer’s perspective if offers plenty of rustic charm with interesting backdrops, for some really quirky and alternative portrait options. The lighting at sunset in the rear field is awesome too.
From what I understand the owners don’t advertise the farm as a wedding venue and do limit the number of weddings they host per year but if you are looking for something that is definitely not a “cookie cutter” venue, it’s a great option. For an authentic, rustic, boho and genuinely alternative wedding Burleigh Hill Farm could be your perfect fit.
