Fattoria La Loggia Wedding in Tuscany

When Gillian and Dan confirmed that they would like me to be their destination wedding photographer for their Fattoria La Loggia wedding in Tuscany I was absolutely thrilled. I had shot a wedding the previous summer in the stunning Greek island of Tinos which had been an amazing experience and it definitely gave me a taste for shoot destination weddings. I was ecstatic that my next overseas wedding would be in Italy and Tuscany was right at the top of my destination wish list.

Fattoria La Loggia Wedding

The farm venue of Fattoria La Loggia is a half hour drive through the lush green Tuscan hills from the ancient city of Florence where I had spent the previous night before travelling to join the wedding party. The plan was for a simultaneous hen and stag gatherings the night before the wedding. The parties would take place in direct areas of the farm, within easy reach of each other but apart enough to feel separate. We enjoyed some incredible local pasta and pizza and beers in preparation for the big day to follow.

The big day arrived, I was staying in the adjacent house on the fringe of the farm, it’s a pretty inspiring landscape to wake up to on the morning of a wedding. First off I went to join Gillian and the couple’s twin children who’d just had their first birthday. The juggle of keeping the twins in check and bridal prep proved a challenge that Gillian was more than capable of dealing with and some help from Mum & Dad certainly proved welcome when it was time for hair and make-up.

Dan and his best man Stuart were staying in the converted farm house directly opposite and took it in turns to share parental duties whilst getting ready too.

The time for the ceremony had arrived, we had to go with “Plan B” which meant being under the covered area due to some moving rainclouds which scuppered the plan to have the ceremony on the lawn. As backup plans go it was a cracking alternative with stunning views behind over the vineyards.

For the couple portraits we strolled the farm and had endless options of where would make for a great spot. The large textures and colour of the stone building so typical of the area were to good to miss but I had to include the rolling green hills also.

As the afternoon became evening the guests enjoyed the very relaxed atmosphere with games like Jenga and tin can alley keeping everyone entertained.

Stunning Tuscany

The views over the surrounding countryside during the wedding breakfast were breathtaking and I’m sure I was not alone in feeling very privileged to be a part of a wedding in such a location.

Gillian and Dan are both very keen cyclists and many of the number present were biking friends and the wedding was themed very much around cycling including the menus and place tags but perhaps most memorable of all was the couple’s entrance for the first dance “Bicycle Race” by Queen was blasted out the speakers as the newlyweds both entered the dance floor on road bikes before the band kicked into life and rocked the party until the early hours of a warm spring Tuscan night.
